When shipping personal items to Hong Kong, you are required to have import declarations. Before you start packing your cargo shipping boxes to Hong Kong, there are a few things you should know about cargo shipping and overseas moving to Hong Kong.

One of the first things you should know about shipping to Hong Kong is that you need to provide a detailed inventory of goods for your cargo shipment. You are also required to provide a photocopy of your passport. Food imports are very important to Hong Kong. Foods commonly imported to Hong Kong include fruit, nuts, meats, poultry, seafood and more.

Regulations For Cargo Shipping To Hong Kong

If you want to ship liquor to Hong Kong, you may be required to pay duty fees and taxes. It is customary to pay duty fees to the Customs Office in Hong Kong before your cargo shipment arrives in Hong Kong. The rate depends on the type of liquor that you are shipping to Hong Kong, and the alcohol content.

You should also be prepared to pay excise duties and fees on certain commodities that you may be shipping to Hong Kong. These include:
  • Some types of hydrocarbon oil (ex. light diesel oil)
  • Liquor with 30% or higher alcohol content
  • Tobacco (unless smokeless)
  • Methyl alcohol

Car Shipping to Hong Kong

Finally, if you are shipping a car to Hong Kong, your car must be a right-hand drive vehicle, or you need to apply for a special import license.

Bringing A Pet To Hong Kong

If you are moving to Hong Kong or returning to the country after having been away for a while, and want to bring a pet with you, plan to get a special permit in advance. Also, animals like cats and dogs from certain areas like the United Kingdom, Japan and Australia, may be exempt from quarantine requirements in Hong Kong.
